About Us
Bradfordville Animal Hospital was founded in 1982 by Dr. Lomax Teal. Originally a plantation outbuilding built in 1853, Dr. Teal remodeled the building into the existing hospital. The "back edition" was added several years later. Dr. Alex "Steve" Steverson purchased Bradfordville Animal Hospital in 1991. Since then we have grown by two exam rooms, an additional waiting room, second treatment area, records room, employee break room/meeting room, doctors office and a separate boarding area for cats. We are fully handicap accessible.
The most recent major renovation updated the boarding facilities and added 5 luxury resort suites for a 'cageless' boarding environment.
Our Hospital
Over the years we have grown to meet the needs of our community and, at the same time, have maintained the welcoming atmosphere and personal attention that makes clients and pets feel at home.
We tailor our health and vaccination programs according to the needs and lifestyle of each animal. If your cat or dog becomes ill, we take the time to discuss all the options for treatment, and we work with you to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
Waiting/Reception Area
We have two waiting rooms, each with its own entrance door. These are not separate dog or cat sides, since we found it impossible to separate families who brought in multiple pets!
Exam Rooms
There are four exam rooms each equipped with exam tables, seating for clients, and informational booklets, with an available x-ray viewer for radiographic consultations and the MedRx viewer.
Surgery Suite
The surgery suite is fitted with the latest equipment enabling us to perform a full range of surgical procedures ranging from the routine to the complex. We are equipped to handle orthopedic as well as general surgical procedures. Every patient's vital signs are closely monitored during all anesthetic procedures.
Intensive /Critical care
The intensive care room is centrally located, adjacent to the treatment area and allows the doctor and staff to keep an eye on severely ill or recuperating patients.
Isolation area
Pets with potentially transmissible diseases are housed in the isolation ward. This area is completely separate from other hospitalized or kenneled patients to reduce the risk of cross contamination.
Dentistry
Our dental services include oral examinations, tarter removal, teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery. The minor procedures room has its own anesthesia and monitoring equipment for performing these procedures.
Radiology
Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, cardiovascular(cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment and automatic processing provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders.
Electrocardiography
We provide ECG services on-site as well as consultations with cardiology specialists.
Laboratory
A state of the art, in-house laboratory facility enables us to obtain important laboratory results quickly. Our trained personnel perform blood testing, cell counts, STAT chemistry panels, fecal analysis for parasites and bacterial overgrowth, cellular cytology, Feline Leukemia/ Feline Aids testing, heartworm, Lyme and Ehrlichia testing and a host of other evaluations.
For those cases requiring more detailed laboratory diagnosis, we use top-notch outside laboratories, usually getting results back with in 24-48 hours.
Pharmacy
The well stocked pharmacy can fill out most prescriptions. We also have a complete on-line pharmacy through our website for you to access any time day or night.
Grooming
In addition to providing complete veterinary care our well-established hospital is proud to offer professional grooming by our experienced groomer Mary Ellen, who has been with us since 1992. Clients come from many different parts of Tallahassee for their pets haircuts. Mary performs grooming magic in a separate grooming area where she and her assistant bathe, clip, fluff and buff.
Boarding
We provide pet boarding as a service to our clients. All boarders receive personal attention from our caring staff. Pets may be dropped off and picked up during regular business hours Monday through Saturday.
Boarders are watched over by kennel attendants who are responsible for cleaning, feeding and exercising the pets in their care. The boarding area has been designed to maintain a high level of hygiene and is climate controlled. Cats are boarded in an area separate from dogs.
Daycare boarding on weekdays is also available, at 1/2 price regular overnite board.
Emergencies
After hours emergencies are handled by allied veterinary hospital, where a doctor is on staff and available when we are closed evenings, weekends and holidays.
Security
For your pet’s safety and protection, our building has a 24 hour a day security monitoring system.
