DENVER -- A dog breeder has threatened to sue Denver animal control after
19 puppies were removed from his pickup camper over the weekend.Dwight
Young said he was transporting the puppies for sale and kept them in his
pickup truck while he stayed in a motel, Denver television station KMGH
reported. He came out to find a note on his truck from Denver Animal Control.Someone
became concerned when they saw and smelled the puppies inside his pickup.
The note from animal control said the puppies were seized because of neglect.
The note said that they did not have access to fresh water and were kept
in filth.
Young said the dogs were in Denver temporarily because he planned to sell
them to customers at Tomahawk Truck Stop in Brighton, Colo. He said he
lets them out when he can keep an eye on them. The puppies are a combination
of shih tzus, shelties and mixed breed. An animal control officer told
Young that all animals transported across state lines are required to
have health certificates that show their immunization records.Since Young
did not have that, the officer said that animal control has the right
to hold the puppies until a court hearing on March 13.
