Phoebe and Puppies/Kittens

Just 1 day old!

Phoebe's story:

On April 10 , 2005, Miss Phoebe gave birth to 6 fine, vigorous Maltese puppies. Phoebe wasn't producing enough milk to sustain such a large family, so supplementation was in order. She came to the clinic with surrogate mom Debbie so that her babies could get their needed nutrition by bottle. Altough not producing much milk, she still took excellent care of her litter, keeping them clean and happy.

The Kittens story:

On April 14th, someone brought 2 kittens into the clinic, having found them abandoned under a house and crying in hunger. We decided to take them in and bottle feed the two little waifs, and then to find them a good home. Cornelia, (yours truly) became their surrogate mom, teaching them how to drink from a bottle.

When Mama Phoebe heard those kittens crying, she threw a fit. She wanted to see them. When we showed her the babies, she immediatly started licking them and cuddling them as if they were hers. So . . . naturally, we put them in with her litter of puppies. And that, as the story goes, was that - Phoebe cared for them as if they were her own, cleaning them and even letting them nurse, and puppies and kittens became fast friends.

As both kittens and puppies grew, they became harder to contain. No longer could one just open the kennel door and expect everyone to stay put.
